For those of us who are record collectors, the word “live” may actually remind us of the mediation that necessarily goes along with the term. A “live” performance may be one that has many auditory artifacts from the crowd and recording equipment that interfere with the experience of the music itself. “LIVE” at the Beall Center for Art + Technology at U.C. Irvine similarly suggests that the “live” is always mediated, particularly in the age of search engines, surveillance cameras, and Internet ti

Everything The Terrordactyls do is wonderful. (Megan Seling, The Stranger) The Terrordactyls are Michael Cadiz and Tyrel Stendahl. Although Michael was born in Maryland and Tyrel hails from Washington, the pair met in high school on the tiny Northwest island of Vashon where they first began to play music together (along with some games of four-square and capture-the-flag.) Now split between NYC and Washington, Michael and Tyrel still find plenty of time for music-making. The boys recently pu

Today I used Technorati to find more info on ‘house music records’ so I could post it into ‘Club music’. And this is one of the first results I found:

People are always asking me to write more often, well here i go, I looked up some information on ‘house music podcast’.
It’s been a while, my faithful readers. But seeing that today is 2/21 (221, get it?), I thought I owed you a post. This not-so-great hiatus of the last month was precipitated by an inordinate amount of work; when I say I was working 20-hour days for the last 4 weeks, it’s no exaggeration. As you may know, there’s a lot of hard work that goes into this blog and into my podcast. And working for a startup keeps me extraordinarily busy as well. Add to that my family life, and…well, you get the id

This is What I’m Listening to: Musical Confessions of a 30-Something Let’s take a moment from our hurried, hectic lives and think about what it means to be just the opposite: slow. Lately I have noticed that the music I have been listening to is all very plodding and sparse and I am not intentionally choosing to pursue it. It’s pursuing me. Maybe this is some sort of reaction formation to a society that is rooted in instant gratification and the almost constant pressure to do everything

So yesterday we had a bit of excitement….not good fun excitement. First let me set up the story. We rent the house we live in from a guy named Tony. His sister in law owns the house next door. Her house has been vacant for a year and she’s been paying the mortgage all this time. She has decided that she can longer afford to pay it so she plans to let the bank take it, but for now she is still in possession. Tony made arrangements for us to trade the window blinds from house to house because o
